A snippet of news has caught my attention: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, the sixth installment in the Potter series may be filmed in New Zealand. Conforming with the ideals of many other epic releases, the reasoning behind the change in filming location is apparently due to a more favourable economy and climate. Whether this will have negative or positive effects on the sixth movie we can only speculate.
However fans have become accustomed to changes in setting, with Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban changing, in some cases radically, the known geography of Hogwarts and its surrounds. Fans will have to judge the effect the change to a new country, continent and hempishpere has on the movie. Fingers remain crossed that any changes will spare the current casting.
Other films that have been filmed in New Zealand include: The Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe & Prince Caspian.

Inkheart, latest hit movie trilogy - Inkheart #1
Inkheart, a fantastic novel, written by Cornellia Funke, redefined the fantasy genre. Critically acclaimed and adored by readers across the world, Inkheart and its accompaning novels (Inkspell and Inkdawn) are the latest book to movie trilogy to storm the world's cinema screens.
Inkheart the movie seems set for success, but will be going up against a number of well known movies set for release in 2007. Sources can not confirm as to whether or not the film will be released in Easter 2007 as expected, with many web sites mentioning 2008 as a safe bet for a release date.
The cast includes names like: Brendan Fraser as Silvertongue (Rick O'Connell in the Mummy and Mummy Returns), Paul Bettany as Dustfinger (played Silas in the DaVinci Code), and talks are underway with Kathy Bates who starred as Molly Brown in Titanic and Mama in the Waterboy. And negotiations are ongoing with British actor Jim Broadbent as to whether he'll star as Fenoglio in Inkheart (Dad in Bridget Jones Diary as well as Professor Kirke in The Chronicles of Narnia).
Inkheart centres around the story of motherless Meggie, who discovers a shcoking secret about her father, Mo. Mo (or Silvertounge) can 'read' characters out of the pages of their fantasy world and bring them into the real world. Unintentionally he brought three characters into the real world from the book Inkheart, and caused his wife to disappear mysteriously. Villians, thugs and dastardly deeds await for young Meggie who takes on a journey to save her father, and rescue her friends.

Professor Dolores Umbridge - Voldemort's Newest Competition

Evanna Lynch playing "Loony" Luna Lovegood

Things look grim for the cast of the newest Harry Potter flick. Maybe Harry doesn't like his new haircut??
No Northern Lights - His Dark Materials #2
The title of the first film in the His Dark Material trilogy has been confirmed. His Dark Materials: The Golden Compass. Adapted from Phillip Pullman's award winning book, the film is set to be a huge success. The title may confuse some Aussie fans, who may remember the book being called Northern Lights, whether this is a another case of Harry Potter and the "Sorcerer's" Stone, i.e. the title changing in countries where the book was known differently, Northern Lights, as opposed to The Golden Compass; seems unlikely.
What seems more confusing to fans is whether or not there will be three films made, to accompany each of the books in the acclaimed trilogy. Why they'd go against what are three very solid seperate adn unifed storylines remains unclear.
Release Date, November 16th, 2007.

New Narnia Flick Set For Success - Prince Caspian #1
Notice to all fans of the Narnia series, and box office smash, The Chronicles of Narnia, The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe. Prince Caspian is coming to a silver screen near you! Well eventually anyway. Release date is scheduled as December 14th, 2007, which will prabbly mean another boxing date release for Australian fans. Casting appears to be quite similar as before, as does the director for the new Narnia Flick. Filming is likely to commence sometime soon in New Zealand.
His Dark Materials #1
Fans of His Dark Material, another fantastic trilogy, will be glad to here that progress is going swimmingly for the first movie, The Golden Compass (which many may know as Northern Lights). Locals in Sutton Bridge thought that movie crews which appeared in their village a short time ago where filming scenes from Harry Potter or the new James Bond flick. However it was revealed shortly after that it was the film crew of the first installment of the His Dark Materials trilogy. The scene featured Sutton Bridge opening and closing as a barge/canal boat sailed through.
And who is playing the evil Mrs. Coulter, none other than Aussie actor Nicole Kidman. Other actors include: Daniel Craig, as Lord Asriel, Eva Green as Serafina Perkkala and Adam Godley as the voice of Pantalaimon. Dakota Blue Richards will play Lyra.
The role of the Authority (God) and the negative representation of the Church, are to be changed, with Newline fearing a Christian backlash. Fans are outraged. The Director of the three films has alos disappointed fans, being Chris Weitz the same director in charge of American Pie.

The Hobbit / LOTR
The Lord of the Rings finished some time ago, and our boxing days have never really been the same. But never fear, Peter Jackson is apparently in discussions about making, The Hobbit, which may appear on the silver screen as early as boxing day 2007! (The date now appears more likely to be 2008-9) However rumour has it that, Jackson and Newline Cinemas parted on ill terms at the end of the Return of the King over apparent salary disputes, and so it is not clear whether Lord of the Rings fans will get to see the prequel movie they have been dying for and whether Jackson will film the epic. The rights to the Hobbit are also in dispute between Newline cinema and MGM.
The Hobbit will also include some former LOTR stars, Ian Mckellen is set to play Gandalf once more and Andy Serkis will continue to play Gollum/Smeagol. Whether or not Ian Holm will play Bilbo, considering Bilbo is in the prime of his youth in the movie, are unclear.
